Understanding Expected Value
Positive EV (+EV)
The bet returns more in the long run than it costs. Sharps seek +EV bets — not just winners, but bets where the odds exceed the true probability. Find enough of them and you're profitable regardless of short-term variance.
Negative EV (−EV)
The house has the edge. Most retail bets are −EV by design — the vig (juice) ensures that. The goal is finding the exceptions through sharp lines, line shopping, or superior information.
Estimating your probability
This is the hard part. Use your own research, injury reports, weather, and matchup data. The calculator is only as good as your probability estimate.
